5 Ways to Get Rid of Large Pores
There are several reasons why your pores might appear larger than they should be, including acne, sun damage, using pore-clogging makeup, and an increase in sebum production.
Unfortunately, you cannot alter your pores’ size, but you can find ways to help minimise their appearance.
From choosing the right skincare products to trying collagen therapy to wearing sunscreen every day, keep reading to find out five ways to get rid of large pores, as recommended by skin care experts.
1. Cleanse thoroughly
Cleansing should be an essential part of your daily skincare routine as it is essential for getting rid of excess dirt and oil without stripping your skin of moisture. That being said, if you have large pores, you need to make sure you are using the right type of cleanser for your skin type. If large pores are a result of oily skin, opt for a gel-based cleanser.
All skin types should avoid cleansers that contain soap or scrubbing agents, as these will make your pores even more prominent.
2. Wear sunscreen
You have probably heard it all before, but you must wear sunscreen every single day, not just when the sun is shining, or you are on holiday. This is because sun exposure can dry out your skin, causing your pores to look bigger. Not to mention the fact that sun-damaged skin increases your risk of cancer and wrinkles.
Look for a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and make sure that you cover your neck and décolletage area as well as your face.
3. Try collagen therapy
Collagen therapies are designed to help stimulate collagen and elastin growth, both of which are needed for youthful-looking skin. One of the most popular collagen therapies is Microneedling, a process involving fine needles to create hundreds of invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of the skin.
Although you may think that this would make your pores appear larger, the opposite is true. By stimulating collagen in and around your pores, microneedling will make them appear plumper and smaller.
4.Use non-comedogenic makeup
If you have not heard of comedogenic makeup and skincare, then you are in for a treat. Designed specifically not to clog your pores, you can find non-comedogenic moisturisers, cleansers, foundation, and so much more.
When looking for skincare and makeup products, look for terms including non-comedogenic, oil-free, and will not clog pores.
5. Exfoliate safely
Exfoliation is crucial in the fight against large pores and dry skin, making them less noticeable and stopping them from becoming clogged up. Pick an exfoliator that is suited to your skin type and make sure that you apply it gently to avoid damaging your skin.
Always follow exfoliation with a moisturiser as this process can be drying and try to find the right exfoliation schedule for you and your skin. As a general rule, the more aggressive the exfoliation product and techniques that you use, the less it needs to be done.
