Healthy Skin Tips for Over 40s
Everyone wants healthy skin. As a young person, you might have worried about combatting acne and getting rid of excess oils. Once you reach your forties and beyond, though, other problem areas start creeping up, such as wrinkles, dry skin, and age spots – all signs of ageing skin. To make sure your skin stays looking and feeling healthy after forty, use these handy tips.
Botox
Some people are hesitant to get Botox, but there is no better time to fight those pesky lines than when you are in your forties. That’s because they haven’t formed as much as they would in your fifties or sixties, which means you have the chance to stop them in their tracks. We have plenty more anti ageing treatments to turn back the clock, so browse our website if ageing is your main skin concern.
Drink Lots of Water
Water hydrates the entire body, and that includes the skin. You’ll notice when you are dehydrated that your skin looks dry and dull; when you drink enough water, though, a natural glow will appear. To help maintain that healthy glow, drink around two litres of water a day – carrying a water bottle with you will remind you to drink up!
Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise
A great moisturiser is an essential part of any good skincare routine. After exfoliating, cleansing, and toning, you need that layer of moisture to keep your skin hydrated and glowing. You should moisturise your body and face every morning and night, and if you notice particularly dry spots, consider using an oil or even a thin layer of Vaseline.
Use a Retinol
One ingredient that is proven to slow down ageing is retinol. It does this by speeding up cell turnover and collagen production, giving your skin a chance to overcome previous damage. The best time to use retinol is overnight after cleansing your skin, allowing it time to work its magic.
Use Sunscreen Every Day
The biggest contributor to aged skin is the sun. It’s annoying – something so natural causes wrinkles, age spots, and even cancer in some cases. For both your health and your skin’s vitality, wear a high SPF sunscreen every single day, even when it’s cloudy. Fit it into your usual routine after moisturising, and after a while, you won’t even think about it. Don’t forget to keep topping it up on particularly hot days!
Don’t Forget Your Hands and Neck
After forty, you’ll start to show signs of ageing in more areas than just your face – particularly your hands and neck. No matter how much time you spend perfecting your skincare routine, if you forget about your hands and neck, you’ll quickly give away your age. So, for healthy and glowing skin all around, use every one of your skincare products down your neck and on the back of your hands. It’ll make a difference!
With the right treatments, skin care products, and lifestyle changes, your skin will look healthy long after your forties are over.
